PORTSMOUTH’S visitor information service is launching a new mobile phone app which guides people around the city.

The free download will provide a guidebook where information is fed in using the Visit Portsmouth website.

Its makers aim to give people all the information they need to make the most of their visits – from the Spinnaker Tower to the Historic Dockyard, museums and attractions.

It also contains information and tips about shopping, food and drink venues, events and activities, and business listings and information.

Sections include Things to Do, Food and Drink, Where to Stay and Shopping.

There will also be a favourites function to allow people to build your their personalised plans of places to visit, where to eat, and things to do.

Cllr Mike Hancock, cabinet member for planning, regeneration and economic development at the city council, said: ‘At the touch of a button people can find out about all the great events and activities going on in Portsmouth.

‘The information is regularly updated, so people can keep it on their phones and refer to it again and again.’

Guests are also being given the chance to win a weekend break in Portsmouth by downloading the app, finding the Holiday Inn Hotel, and sending in a screen shot.

Full details on how to enter the competition can be found by calling (023) 9282 6722 or visiting visitportsmouth.co.uk
