A NEW country park will be created on the Paulsgrove landfill site.

Horsea Island Country Park is a new project which will provide 135 acres of new public open space.

The site was selected as part of the Queen’s Jubilee Woods Project which will see 60 Diamond Woods formed across the UK.

The new park will feature 50,000 trees and shrubs, grass areas, wild flower meadows, footpaths, cycle routes, picnic areas and a car park.

Portsmouth City Council will be holding a planting ceremony to mark the occasion on March 25.

School children will be planting 60 trees to start the project.

The ceremony will be taking place near the entrance of the Waste Recycling Centre at Port Solent.

The landscaping works will be carried out by Veolia.
