CURRY lovers will be able to couple their joy of Indian food with the most romantic month of the year when a new restaurant opens.

The Spice Village will be opening in Drayton in February, a labour of love conversion from its former identity as the New Inn.

The opening has been delayed while planning permission was being given for some of the alterations, owner Abdul Ahad said.

He originally bought the pub in April this year.

He added: 'The planning took quite a while. But the building is opening, and everything is now on time.'

Alterations include a new roof at the back of the property and a proposed new extension for the kitchen area, as well as a refurbishment of the former pub.

No exact date has yet been announced for the new restaurant opening.

Mr Ahad, who also owns the Spice Village in Emsworth, and the Indian Cottage in Portsmouth, added: 'I will announce it in the new year, after consultation with my project manager.'
