A £250,000 cycle and pedestrian route between Havant and Warblington will be opened on Friday.

The new 3m-wide path means cyclists will no longer be forced to share the narrow Emsworth Road with road traffic when travelling between Havant and Emsworth.

Hampshire County Council executive member for economy, transport and environment Councillor Sean Woodward said: ‘I’m really pleased to see this new route opening, providing cyclists and pedestrians with a better route to travel to work or school.

‘The scheme has come about through successful partnership working, and provides a viable alternative to driving.

‘I hope it might encourage more people to think about leaving the car at home for some of their journeys.’

The stretch will form part of a National Cycle Network Route 2 linking Kent and Cornwall along the south coast.

The route will be especially useful to Warblington School pupils at needing to get into Havant or Leigh Park.
