WICKHAM is celebrating the completion of a floodlit all weather pitch which has been officially opened by Pompey legend Linvoy Primus.

The new pitch is within the grounds of Wickham CE Primary School and has been created in a project involving Wickham Parish Council, Wickham Community Association and the school.

The pitch will be used by the school during the day and open to the public every evening and at weekends.

Bookings can be made from 6-9pm during the week and from 9am-9pm at weekends. The pitch will be free to use when not formally booked.

Headteacher Maria Ackland said: ‘The all weather sports pitch will provide an amazing sports facility for the children of Wickham. We are working together to improve the sports facilities in our locality and look forward to using the new pitch to promote healthy life choices for our children and their families.’

Parish clerk Nicki Oliver said: ‘in the last three years we have secured over £360,000 in grants which has helped us to provide an extension to the skatepark and two new tennis courts alongside this new pitch. We are celebrating 2012 with some great new facilities in our village.’
