A new activity group for former service personnel with dementia is being launched by the Alzheimer’s Society in Gosport.

The group will meet at the Royal Naval Association in Fareham Road on the last Wednesday of each month.

The group’s aim is to provide a social atmosphere, which hopes to keep people with dementia physically and mentally active as well as helping people express themselves.

There will be a range of activities including days out to museums, enjoying cream teas while looking at old photographs and revisiting their military origins.

Operations manager for the society in Hampshire and Isle of Wight Amber Reed said: ‘We’re really excited to be launching this new group in Gosport.

‘There are 1,133 people living with dementia in the Gosport area, and with the right support people can live well with the condition for a number of years.’
