THE Royal Mail is on the hunt for new seasonal staff to help the Christmas deliveries in Portsmouth.

It’s one of only a handful of areas where more Royal Mail recruits are needed, after 110,000 people applied for just 18,000 Christmas jobs.

Together, around two billion Christmas items will be delivered. The new staff will work in mail and distribution centres, helping to sort Christmas cards and packets before they go to delivery offices for postmen and women to take out on their rounds.

Royal Mail’s managing director of operations and modernisation, Mark Higson, said: ‘More seasonal recruits are required in Portsmouth. We look forward to receiving applications from people who want to work in those areas and earn some extra money over the festive season.’
