THE director of nursing for the commissioning group that covers the Portsmouth area has taken on a new role.

Sarah Elliott has been appointed as the director for nursing and quality for NHS England South.

She was previously director of nursing in the Wessex Area Team of NHS England and also worked in the same role for the now-defunct cluster of primary care trusts covering Southampton, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth (Ship).

After qualifying, Sarah practised as a nurse in a number of areas, including intensive care. She later trained as a health visitor and practice teacher in Brighton.

Sarah said: ‘It’s an honour to take over this role from Liz Redfern who has done a fantastic job over the past eight years.

‘I’m looking forward to working closely with the rest of the regional team at this new and exciting time for the NHS and in particular driving further quality improvements to patient experience and patient safety across the south.’
