The NHS has admitted being responsible for the death of a pensioner who plunged to his death through a glass walkway on his mobility scooter.

Benjamin Withers, 82, was on the first floor of Fareham Health Centre when the accident happened in September 2012.

At Portsmouth Magistrates Court the NHS Litigation Authority admitted breaching section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

The case has been adjourned until December 16 for sentencing.

Mr Withers, from Fareham, fell 12ft in his electric wheelchair and was declared dead at the scene of the accident, in Osborn Road.
