ANY oil company that comes searching for ‘black gold’ will face huge opposition, say campaigners.

Friends of the Earth say they will oppose any drilling in the Weald basin, which stretches across Hampshire and West Sussex and includes exploration sites near Havant.

It comes as a discovery near Gatwick Airport found there could be 100bn barrels of oil.

Campaigner Brenda Pollack said: ‘The next government must end our reliance on climate-changing fossil fuels.’
