IF ANIMALS could take part in the Olympics, who would win a gold medal in the long jump?

Or what about the 100-metre sprint?

Youngsters in Gosport were given the chance to find out for themselves at an Olympic-themed animal event.

The SEARCH Museum in Clarence Road held the event to celebrate the Olympics and National Science and Engineering Week.

Families could explore the achievements of the animal world with real specimens and other hands-on activities.

Learning officer at the museum Janet Wildman said: ‘We were looking at Olympic skills and applying them to the animal world.

‘Then the children would give out gold, silver and bronze medals to the animals based on what they thought they could do.

‘We looked at other Olympics values like teamwork and healthy eating. It was a good day and we had around 240 visitors.’
