RATHER than driving the 150 miles to a diabetic conference, this team decided to use pedal power.

Nipro Diagnostics, in Barnes Wallis Road, Fareham, provide diabetic products to the NHS.

And the firm is backing a new national charity called Diabetes Power, which aims to raise awareness of diagnosing Type 1 diabetes.

The charity needs to raise £5,000 to become a charitable trust, and the Fareham firm went on a sponsored cycle ride, starting from the Diabetes Centre, in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, and finishing at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

Chris Avery, managing director, said: ‘We had always wanted to cycle the route, and what better reason to do it than for a cause?’

It took the team two days and so far £3,500 has been raised.
