FROM Little Nell to Miss Havisham, Charles Dickens’s girls and women still speak to us today, making us laugh and sometimes cry.

To mark the author’s bicentenary, actress Miriam Margolyes is bringing to Portsmouth her one-woman show in which she recreates 23 of his most colourful characters.

She will appear at the David Russell Theatre at Portsmouth Grammar School on Sunday, July 8 at 5pm.

Tickets for this event, which has been organised by Patricia Pulham of the university’s Centre for Studies in Literature, are available from (023) 9284 3757 or by e-mailing
