A CHARITY that helps young homeless people marked its one-year anniversary with an open day.

Step by Step celebrated the end of a successful 12 months at Agnew House in Gosport.

It’s been one year since we opened and it was a chance to highlight our services.

It invited guests including Gosport borough councillors, parliamentary candidates, people from churches and others that wanted to show their support for the work carried out by the volunteers.

Jenny Jackson, part of the fundraising team said: ‘The open day was good. It’s been a year since we opened and it was a chance to highlight our services. But the day was used to raise awareness about how people can help us as well as how we help others.’

The day involved presentations from managers and a tour of the facilities in St Vincent Road.

Its next major fundraiser is on June 19 when it is holding a Big Summer Sleep Out.

The aim is to give people a chance to experience what it is like to be homeless and helps raise money for the charity.

The event costs £10 per person or £40 for a team of five.

It is being held at Stansted Park, near Havant.

Step by Step needs to raise £500,000 and this year it hopes to help 1,500 people.

Jenny added: ‘We’re keen for people to get involved and take part in The Big Summer Sleep Out to help use support even more people.’

The Gosport branch of the charity works with 11 to 25-year-olds and offers services such as accommodation, support, training and counselling to help those in need.
