It’s exciting news that Prince William is coming to Gosport for the re-dedication of submarine HMS Alliance after her multi-million-pound restoration.
He will be following in the footsteps of many a royal ancestor. Queen Victoria was a regular visitor to Gosport on her way to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.
She would get a train via Fareham from London to Clarence Yard, where the Royal Yacht would take her across the Solent.
Her son, the Prince of Wales, stayed at The Alverbank.
If Wills wanted to take the same route today though, he’d have to catch the Eclipse bus and then change at the bus station for the No 5.
Not quite so regal!
