Fine Voice Academy (FV) originally formed the group in April 2012 in partnership with a local cancer charity but now supports this group independently.
From this singing for health group, Quay of Sea Voices choir was formed and has been a busy part of FV, taking part in many concerts and shows for charity.
Over the last year they have helped FV and its members raise thousands of pounds for charities (cancer and other worthy causes), many of which benefit the local community.
What does QoSV offer?
Friendship, understanding, a place to share experiences that those not touched by cancer will never comprehend, but also a different focus, something positive to set your mind to when faced with one of life’s greatest battles.
Some of the wonderful people involved will tell you that the Thursday singing is a great oasis and ‘me time.’
We also laugh, socialise and act like any other vibrant social club.
As for performing, QoSV sang for Children in Need at Kings Theatre last November, and our track is on a fundraising CD just released by the D-Day Museum. We also appeared on BBC1 singing at the Spinnaker Tower in Christmas 2014 – wonderful memories, wonderful opportunities.
Would you like to join QoSV?
Can sing, can’t sing? Either way not a problem, look at me! No experience necessary, it is all about singing and having fun, joining in and having a blast!
Scientific studies prove that taking part in music can actually contribute to the healing process. Among many other things, singing can increase lung capacity, breath control and increase oxygen intake by improving respiration. All ages and (lack of) abilities welcome.
Take Barry, 74, and proud of it, singing on stage for the first time ever since the choir started – always smiling, always so excited, like a child locked in a sweet shop for a weekend. He is such an inspiration and says everything as to why this is such a pleasurable group to be a part of.
Come join us every Thursday from 7pm till 9pm, in school terms. Find us at Portsmouth Watersports Centre, Eastern Road, Portsmouth PO3 5LY.
The singing Group is free for cancer patients, those in remission, carers and professionals helping those affected.
