So David Cameron now believes ‘discipline and rigour’ are necessary in schools to help mend our broken society.
He has finally admitted that we need an education system based on ‘real excellence’ and not one in which children are conned into believing that life is easy and everyone is equal.
More than 40 years of comprehensive education has cost this country dear as we have sought to measure academic achievement by using the lowest common denominators.
As a result, exam success has risen while the quality of education has fallen.
Nonetheless, I fear this is yet another outburst of populist blather from our dear leader.
If not, he should be careful. He’s starting to sound like a genuine Conservative.
