Chuckles about Eugene most welcome in these grim times

NEWS COMMENT: Blue badge abusers are cheating the system

Have your say

There’s precious little to raise a smile among us Pompey supporters at the moment – so I’d like to give a pat on the back to the Footymad fans’ website.

With football topics at a premium during the close-season, contributors have to rely on other subjects to generate discussion – and one came up with the death of Eugene Polley, at the age of 97.

For those (like me) who didn’t know, this was the gentleman who invented the TV remote control.

‘Did they discover him down the side of the settee?’ asked one contributor.

‘They should have tried turning his batteries around and banging him on the coffee table,’ wrote another.

Thanks for the chuckles, gentlemen. Most welcome in these grim times.
