Council’s instrument rental scheme is music to my ears

Children adore being spoilt by their grandparents, but is it too much?

Hurray for new initiatives. This time it’s the turn of Hampshire County Council’s music service, which has rented me a flute for my youngest daughter to play for a term so that we can see how she gets on with it.

What a great idea. Parents don’t have to face up to the financial implications of buying an expensive instrument, while children can have a good try at playing and practising to see how they get on.

Obviously my daughter is taking lessons with a HCC music service teacher and we had to find out if there was a flute available and then pick it up in Eastleigh.

But that didn’t seem too high a price, combined with the £15 rental, compared to the £300-plus a new flute might have cost us.
