This TV brain-box Brian Cox is all over the media at the moment. He’s the sexy particle physics boffin who presents TV shows about the universe and other science stuff.

But the reason the media likes him is that he also had some fame in the 1990s as the keyboard player for the pop band D:Ream. And I was thinking: ‘Is he the only famous science brain-box who’s also been a pop star?’ And the answer, of course, is ‘No.’

Brian May, Queen’s legendary axeman is the holder of a PhD in Infra-Red Astronomy. He would have become a doctor years ago, but his career with Queen took up all his time.

Foo Fighters plan to release a vinyl album of covers titled Medium Rare, to promote Record Store Day next month.

The Darkness are planning a comeback if the launch of a new website is anything to go by. The group imploded in 2006 and split amid reports of alcohol abuse and in-fighting, and sibling bandmates Justin and Dan Hawkins went their separate ways. But reports suggest sober singer Justin has now reconciled with his brother and the pair have revamped the band.
