A listener from Poole in Dorset e-mailed me this week to find an answer to the question his five-year-had posed to him over the weekend.
Could my listeners help? During a trip to Portsmouth to go up the Spinnaker Tower and then to watch the hovercraft come in at Southsea, the boy asked: ‘Dad, why is our beach all sandy and theirs is all stony?’
Great question and one which brought a flood of complicated but correct answers.
But how do you explain this in a simple way to a five-year-old?
So to get said listener out of what was a tricky situation, we suggested this reply: ‘Would you like an ice cream son?’
