VERITY LUSH: Leave me to browse the make-up counter in peace

Three days, two children and one me – that was the challenge as my wife escaped for a weekend of recovery away from the children and me with her friends.

I had my doubters, friends and family, constantly asking how I was managing and if I needed help.

They needn't have bothered, I had the whole thing wrapped up and sorted.

I can't see what all the fuss is about, as long as you've planned ahead it's a doddle.

I was like a well-oiled machine, bottles washed, sterilised and filled. Food cooked, mashed and served. Podgy little faces filled, wiped and smiling.

Although in fairness, I'm going to come clean and admit my wife had been gone for less than two hours before I dropped off Molly at my mum's house.

Some may say I was weak and gave up at the first sign of trouble…they're correct.
