Downton has got us sitting down together to watch TV

Children adore being spoilt by their grandparents, but is it too much?

VERITY LUSH: Don’t blame gran for kids munching on e-numbers

Have your say

Downton Abbey has returned to our screens as perfect Sunday night viewing.

I’m delighted because it’s the one period drama that my husband will, almost cheerfully, watch with me.

Years ago, when we were still young, he just about managed to sit through the epic Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle) and to contain his sighing to the last few hours.

Since marriage, all pretence at enjoying this type of programme had disappeared – until Downton.

I’d like to think it’s because he’s realised the importance of quality time with his wife. But it’s more likely something to do with the fine-looking young females.

But who am I to complain? There’s totty for us ladies to admire too.
