I’ve always been a bit of an amateur historian and feel fortunate that I live in a city that has so much historical value and places of note to visit.
Recently I took myself down to the new Mary Rose Museum at the Historic Dockyard.
For me, one of the most defining moments of the 1980s was the unforgettable sight of the Mary Rose being raised from the murky depths of the Solent.
Three decades later, Henry VIII’s flagship is proudly on display along with 19,000 artefacts that were recovered from the wreck.
My favourite is the skeleton of the ship’s dog, Hatch, who sadly perished along with the rest of the crew.
I urge you all to visit this fascinating place right on our doorstep.
