‘Well’, I thought to myself, ‘Do I risk a “naff orf” retort, or “I’ve been doing this for years”, or do I just walk by?’
I’m talking about people feeding bread to the swans at Canoe Lake.
Bread does not agree with swans’ digestive systems.
It can make them ill, and in some cases even cause their death.
As I toddled through Canoe Lake a few days ago, basking in the winter sunshine, I was thrilled to count 27 swans.
To my concern I then spotted four adults with bags of bread feeding the swans.
That’s when I had my ‘do I, don’t I’ thought.
There’s only a few faded signs on litter bins and an information board near the cafe that warns people not to feed bread to the swans.
We need bigger, brighter signs please.
