There’s been a lot written about the plight of Pompey in recent times.
But of course we should remember it’s not the first time that those who love the club have been called upon to safeguard its future.
In the 1970s people like Keith Blackburn responded. He’d been a Pompey player for five years and was a member of the original SOS Pompey group, set up in 1976 to fundraise for a club in financial difficulties.
He remained a member of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust up until his death last month and he was cremated with a copy of the Sports Mail, a radio tuned to 5 Live and wearing his Ex-Portsmouth Football Club Professionals’ Reunion Club tie.
It was good to see some familiar Pompey faces turn up to pay their respects.
