You don’t have to live in Gosport to understand that the town’s main treasure – its waterfront – isn’t half as good as it should be.

Walk on the Gosport side and look out across the water and you’ll see plenty of interesting sights. Look towards Gosport however and you’ll see lots of yachts, some high-rises and an ugly-looking fuel depot.

Replacing the ferry pontoon is a step in the right direction, but an idea to replace the bus station with an iconic building such as the Spinnaker Tower would feel like a waste of money and misses the point.

We don’t need our own Gunwharf Quays – the real thing is five minutes away by water. What we do need is more restaurants, some half-decent shops and a tidy-up.
