As The News launches its Christmas food appeal and Wave 105 runs its annual toy appeal, the generosity of folk in the Portsmouth area has really struck me.
But, sadly, so has the fact that some children will still go without a present or a decent meal on Christmas Day.
It’s hard to believe that in 2013 we still face the same issues as 100 years ago, although thankfully on a much smaller scale.
I too have been the person ignoring that flier held out as I walk into a supermarket.
When you stop to consider that 11,000 children in the Portsmouth area alone live below the poverty line, you realise we still have so much work to do.
