So I finally got to see The King’s Speech on DVD. For a hundred different reasons, it just never happened when the film was showing at the cinema and I’ve been waiting in glorious anticipation ever since.
And you know what? It’s all right. Not quite the sensation I was expecting, but that’s probably because I’ve been over-anticipating and nothing is ever quite as good as people say, is it?
As everybody knows, Colin Firth plays the stammering King and Helena Bonham Carter is the Queen Mum.
That was interesting to see as, while he is clearly ageing like the rest of us, she appears not to get any older as the years go by
I don’t know what her secret is, but if she could bottle it I’m sure it would be worth a Queen’s ransom.
