An annoying etiquette question – why is it that when people want to leave someone’s house or get away from their company, they always look at a clock and say something like: ‘Oh, is that the time? I really must be going.’
I’ve decided how to put a stop to this. I’m going to put a big clock in my house and have it deliberately one hour fast.
That way when a guest who wants to leave looks at it and says: ‘Oh, is that the time?’ I can say: ‘No, it’s not the time. It’s one hour earlier than that actually.
‘So you can stay here in my company for another hour, no matter how boring I am.’
