This is it, people. Wave a fond farewell to the bleak, seemingly endless recession that has bitten harder than a pitbull terrier on the 5:2 diet.

More and more properties are being bought and sold and consumer confidence is returning.

But the biggest pointer for me is employment.

Walking through Fareham High Street last weekend, I saw a succession of six shops all advertising and looking for staff or apprentices – a surefire sign that business is on the up.

Great news for the nation’s economy, but even better news for this generation of youngsters who are keen to start their careers.
