CLIVE SMITH: It’s time to get our priorities right and put our country first

Have your say

I was extremely saddened to hear the news about the death of Nelson Mandela.

The man was a true legend and should be remembered for all the good he did in the world and his powerful message of forgiveness and reconciliation.

I was blown away by South Africa when I visited this time last year.

I could see why Mandela had so much love for his country – it really is a breath-taking place.

South Africa may still have a long way to go, but surely nobody could deny the huge strides that the country has taken after so many years of racial division.

So much of that is down to one man and his extraordinary journey from anti-apartheid campaigner to prisoner and then first black president of South Africa.
