I was privileged to be invited to attend the last rehearsal of South Downe Musical Society’s production of Calamity Jane.

Until then I’d never fully appreciated how much time, effort and commitment goes into putting on a show like this.

I’m always amazed how much performing talent we have right here on our own doorstep.

But I shouldn’t be surprised. After all, we’ve got Jack Edwards of Portsmouth Players about to star in a big production of Oliver! at the Mayflower in Southampton, whilst local panto veteran Alan Jenkins has just completed a successful run as Fagin in Oliver! at the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor.
