Hats off to England’s football fans – their behaviour was exemplary this week.
If you tell a child she/he is bad enough times, their behaviour will follow suit. The same could be said of football supporters.
It’s easy to concentrate on the ‘negs’, but credit where it is due. I was pitchside at Wembley working for the FA, so I was closer than most to the fans and the action.
During the Republic of Ireland’s anthem, the England supporters were respectful and a handful even clapped at the end.
Yes there was passion and intensity, but singing and cheering was free from any taunting.
The FA deserves praise for getting it right off the pitch.
