Why are celebrities so surprised that some ordinary people of low intellect are bitter, jealous and sometimes, downright nasty?

There’s been a plethora of famous folk closing their Twitter accounts in recent weeks because they’ve been stunned by people who’ve called them nasty names.

Give a moron access to someone in the public eye and they’ll abuse them. It’s always been the case – it’s just it has never been so easy.

Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton is the latest to leave Twitter. In a message to her followers she revealed she couldn’t cope with unkind messages.

Fair play to her for closing her account – and not just bleating on about internet trolls and the injustice of it all.
