Have your say

There was a time when you couldn’t turn around without some campaign or other reminding you to check identification before letting people into your home.

While it might not be quite the thing to start demanding photo ID from your offspring, spouse or parents, it’s worth a timely reminder that thieves operate in a variety of guises.

An apparently innocuous one is that of a water company representative coming to check your water pressure.

All water company personnel should carry photo ID. If they don’t, they’re not legit.

If you are shown ID, make sure you look at it properly.

If you’re not sure, you can ring the company in question to ask for the name of the person who has been sent to your property.

Don’t let thieves in.
