As the sun starts to set on 2013, the year ahead holds some fantastic events and celebrations in the city.

Portsmouth’s most famous son, Charles Dickens, will be commemorated by the unveiling of his statue in February.

The D-Day 70 and Great War centenary events will attract the eyes of the world as we pay respects to the servicemen, women and support personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Lithe bodies will grace the Great South Run as it reaches its 25th anniversary.

Throw in the World Cup in June, where England will unceremoniously get dumped out in a penalty shoot-out against Burkina Faso, and you’ve got the makings of another memorable year!
