It’s a win, win situation for the Scarborough Swampy

One of my favourite stories this week is about a protester who is living up a tree in North Yorkshire to prevent it from being felled.

The 100-year-old tree is due to be cut down by the council as local residents have said its roots are bringing up drains and driveways.

But Mark Snow, who has been dubbed the Scarborough Swampy for his stand, disagrees. He says there is no visible evidence that this is the case and that the tree was there long before any houses.

So he’s said he’ll live in the tree until the council changes its decision.

But what makes the story so amusing for me is the irony in the fact that Mark is a carpenter.

So it’s win, win for him!
