I was absolutely delighted to hear at the end of last week that the ripped piece of material on one of the Sails Of The South on the M275 was finally going to be mended by the city council.
I like those sails, put up as they were as a stop-gap between the scheduled opening date of the Spinnaker Tower and the actual one.
They were an introduction for Portsmouth into the Millennium and a new welcome for visitors to the city, proclaiming in case anyone had any doubt that Portsmouth is a maritime place.
So when one of the panels got ripped, it should have been a priority to fix it.
But it was left to get worse, becoming a carbuncle to be stared at during tailbacks.
Roll on June 26 when it’ll finally be fixed.
