I’ll never forget the day I was sent a picture of members of US rockers the Foo Fighters, waiting patiently in Portsmouth to get on the ferry to the Isle of Wight.
Coffee in hand, frontman Dave Grohl was hanging out with music fans – many of whom were making the same trip to see the band perform at the island’s festival in Seaclose Park, Newport.
Lots of bands head to the park in helicopters and others, like the Rolling Stones, hire boats to get there.
So it was an even bigger buzz to have a band so well-known as the Foos loitering at the Wightlink terminal, even heading out on deck.
That’s why the festival is so good for Portsmouth – it shares in the buzz, money is spent here and rockers pass through.
