I spent a wonder weekend hosting my radio shows in Bournemouth for the town’s fantastic Air Festival.
An estimated 1.3 million visitors watched the Red Arrows, Eurofighter and a beautiful collection of Second World War aircraft fly 500 feet above packed beaches in gorgeous sunshine.
The only thing missing for me were civilian aircraft. Can you imagine watching a new Airbus A380 zoom past and people’s jaws drop in amazement?
It got me thinking...when did the Lee-on-the-Solent air show finish? Put on by the Royal Navy at HMS Daedalus, it would be wonderful for the area to see this show return.
But with budget cuts and the size of today’s navy, I suppose it’s wishful thinking.
