When is it too late to have a house-warming party?

Last weekend my wife and kids were invited round to a neighbour’s house as they moved from Preston a couple of months ago.

I couldn’t help feeling slightly guilty that after a year living down here I’ve still not invited anybody round for a house-warming.

But when we moved last October, our house was a wreck and I was too embarrassed to invite anyone over.

There was no flooring down in the kitchen and we didn’t have an oven. There were numerous holes in doors and walls, rotten window frames and a non-flushing toilet.

Finally the place is almost ready to accept guests.

But the problem is that I now feel like I’ve missed the boat!
