Have your say

Hopefully, your street party will soon be in full swing and squeaky hooters will provide the soundtrack to your afternoon.

I can’t remember where I was when the Queen celebrated her Golden Jubilee and I wasn’t around when she marked her Silver anniversary, so this will be my only opportunity to wear a Union Jack hat and raise a glass with the neighbours.

People tend to think street parties hark back to the days when everyone left their front doors unlocked and entire generations grew up in the same road.

But just because many of us now lead more transient lives doesn’t mean we can’t understand the meaning of the word community.

Whatever you’re doing today, I hope you’re in the company of someone new.
