Jumping off the pier is not exactly what I envisaged

Children adore being spoilt by their grandparents, but is it too much?

Oh my giddy aunt, I feel sick. What on earth have I got myself into now?

I’ll tell you what – throwing myself off the end of a pier. And I’m serious.

ITN has asked me to present a video about taking part in the annual Worthing Birdman competition.

As the name suggests, it features a bunch of adrenaline junkies jumping off Worthing pier pretending to be, well, birds.

The contest has been going on for years and although I’m not afraid of heights or the sea, I’m petrified at the thought of having to physically launch myself into the air.

But what can I do? I want to present and show what I can do, so I have to take a leap of faith, right? Quite literally!

It’s just my luck that the big chance I get to show a huge company my presenting skills is by putting on an all-in-one bird-type outfit and jumping off a pier.

Let’s be honest, it’s not exactly what I’d envisaged.

Still, I’ve done a skydive before and last year I abseiled down a building in Portsmouth for The Rowans Hospice.
