It was great to see so many people at Stokes Bay last Sunday enjoying the annual Stokes Bay Bus Rally.

We Brits love a bit of eccentricity and a trip on a bus we may have once taken to school really gets those nostalgic juices flowing.

For many, a proper bus has a rumbling engine at the front and an open door at the back – from which we could jump on and off as youngsters.

But the surprise package was the bus I was driving.

A brand new Enviro 400, similar to the park and ride buses in Portsmouth.

Traditionalists couldn’t help but admire the vehicle’s smooth ride and quiet engine.

With air suspension, leather seating and free wi-fi, today’s buses really have come a long way.
