VERITY LUSH: Yet another example of distasteful American influence sweeping the UK

Have your say

What should we be learning from our wonderful Olympic athletes to help us shape the future?

There has been a lot of hyperbole about state schools versus private schools and what that means for the elitism of sport, but perhaps a point is missing in the conversation?

Never mind the money or facilities, we should be encouraging all children and adults to dedicate themselves to something – whether that’s sport, academia or whatever.

We should be learning that if you want to succeed at something you need to set out goals and actually put in the hard slog.

The only things that will ever be handed to people on a plate are probably fattening anyway.

So let’s cheer on dedication and determination.
