Looking forward to evenings of Downton and hearty stew

LAWRENCE MURPHY: A worthy alternative to roasties?

I loved the story this week about how the ‘revelation’ at a major French food festival was a Cornish pasty!

Normally it’s French, Italian and Spanish food that is marvelled at, whereas we’re just seen as the poor relation. But maybe the tide is turning.

I hear stories of how the French adore our country pubs, enjoy our ale and that their guilty pleasure is roast beef!

The only unfortunate thing about British cuisine is its tendency to be suited to the winter.

Then again, I’m really looking forward to those long winter evenings with an open fire, watching Downton Abbey and eating hearty and flavoursome stews, cottage pie and liver and bacon.
