It was the birthday of the tin can this week. A wonderful invention that has, along with the microwave, revolutionised rushed teatimes and made it possible to create a passable meal in under five minutes.

Baked beans are, in my eyes, just wonderful. They’re cheap, they’re relatively healthy and they’re the ultimate comfort food.

And where would the baked bean be without a tin can?

However, there are certain things which should never, ever be tinned. I bought Jez an All Day Breakfast to try on air (lucky boy).

It was the description that really made my stomach turn: ‘mini chopped and shaped beef and cereal cutlet.’

To be fair to him Jez cheerfully gobbled it down in a matter of minutes, but I’m thankful I’m a vegetarian.
