Every December a list of the most popular baby names for that year is published.

It’s always interesting to see which names have gone up and down and whether you can spot any celebrity or cultural influences.

But this year for the first time I came across a similar list for cat names!

Apparently the most popular names for kittens in 2014 were Oliver, Charlie and Jack for boys and Bella, Lucy and Lily for girls.

I was amazed, as they’re all so dull and human-sounding. In fact all three male cat names also made the top 10 for baby boys!

Over the years I’ve had some bizarrely-named pets. My favourite was a cat called Peshwari. You couldn’t name a child after a naan bread, but why not a cat?
