Tuesday was a sad but proud day for Portsmouth, as HMS Illustrious entered Portsmouth harbour for the last time.
She has a rich history which started with a hasty entry into service back in 1982 at the start of the Falklands conflict.
But what now? The last of her class, there is hope she will be retained as a museum and entertainment complex.
Her home should really be Portsmouth. Let’s hope we don’t lose her in the same way we lost the former royal yacht Britannia, which went to Leith.
George Osborne scored a huge cruise ship own goal by supporting Liverpool over Southampton this week.
Fingers crossed he’s not involved in Lusty’s future.
